December 7th, 2014 Costa Rica Fishing Report & Nicaragua Fishing Report

 

A group of anglers from France fished three days offshore and two days in the jungle and had great success.
 
Costa Rica Tarpon Fishing was on fire and produced an average of 6 of seven tarpon landed per boat each day along with an average of 15 tarpon jumped.  The average tarpon weight was 120 lbs to 150 lbs. Three Tarpon were in the 180 lbs range with one angler posting a personnel best at 210 lbs.  All Tarpon were carefully photographed and released due to the exclusive use of circle hooks and per Rio Indio Lodge Policy.
 
Jungle fishing was highly productive for our fishing guests and they chose to fish  for Costa Rica rainbow bass or sometimes called Guapote, and Costa Rica Fat Snook.  Our Lodge fishing guests were pleased with their catches as each boat landed an average of 17 Guapote along with a few Muhara, and Machaca. The average weight for the Guapote was in the 4 lbs to 5 lbs range.

November 30th, 2014 Costa Rica Fishing Report & Nicaragua Fishing Report

 

The Tarpon fishing has been fantastic this past week!  We had a group of fisherman from Ohio and a group for Texas.  All of our fishing guests had excellent success in both the ocean fishing for Tarpon and river fishing in the Jungle for Fat Snook. They have boated an average of six tarpon per boat, along with jacks, barracuda and an occasional shark. The tarpon have averaged over 130 lbs. One 190 lbs Tarpon was released and also a 200 lbs Tarpon was released.  The Costa Rica Tarpon Fishing is On Fire Right Now!

November 23rd, 2014 Costa Rica Fishing Report & Nicaragua Fishing Report

 

We had several Anglers at our fishing lodge this week that flew in to target Costa Rica Trophy Tarpon.   
 
Costa Rica Tarpon Fishing was excellent and produced an average of 6 tarpon landed per boat each day along with an average of 9 tarpon jumped.  Each day also included an assortment of jack's, barracuda, shark and an occasional mackerel.  The average tarpon weight was 110 lbs to 150 lbs. Several Tarpon were in the 180 lbs range with one angler posting a personnel best at 210 lbs.  All fish were carefully released due to the exclusive use of circle hooks and per Rio Indio Lodge policy.
 
Jungle fishing was on the bucket list for our fishing guests and they chose to fish specifically for Costa Rica rainbow bass or sometimes called Guapote.  They were not disappointed as each boat landed an average of 14 Guapote along with a few Muhara and Machaca. November 16th, 2014 Costa Rica Fishing Report & Nicaragua Fishing Report

   

A group of anglers from Peru and two groups from England fished three days offshore and two days in the jungle with great success.
 
Costa Rica Tarpon Fishing was excellent and produced an average of 4 tarpon landed per boat each day along with an average of 7 tarpon jumped.  Anglers also caught a number of jack's, barracuda, and shark. The average tarpon weight was 90 lbs to 140 lbs. One Tarpon was in the 160 lbs. range.  All fish being carefully photographed and released due to the exclusive use of circle hooks and per Rio Indio Lodge policy.
 
Jungle fishing was highly productive for Costa Rica rainbow bass or often called Guapote.  Anglers each caught roughly 18 Gaupote & three snook were caught by trolling on the return trip to the Rio Indio fishing lodge. The Jungle fishing is amazing because you will not see any other people out fishing at that same time in the same spot.  We have many rivers and large streams that our Costa Rica fishing guides will take you through.  There are also several lagoons & lakes that can be fished.  Most of the Guapote are hiding in the lakes and smaller pond like areas of the rivers systems that surround Rio Indio lodge. Anglers will cast from stationary boats towards the shoreline to attract the Guapote from its hiding place in the grass.  The Costa Rica Snook are mostly caught trolling through the Rivers & Streams.  We have caught 40"+ Snook at the Rio Indio Fishing Lodge.

August 24th, 2014 Costa Rica Fishing Report & Nicaragua Fishing Report

We’ve had an incredible Costa Rica Rainbow Bass fishing season along with exceptionally dry weather which concentrated the Bass in accessible lagoons. Several anglers caught more than 25 Guapote Bass each day in the 8 lbs to 12 lbs range using conventional fishing gear and fly fishing rods. The Costa Rica Tarpon fishing was also very good with excellent sea conditions. The Tarpon caught ranged in size from 75lbs to 180lbs and it was not uncommon to have doubles and triples on conventional fishing gear. I used my fly fishing rod and personally caught tarpon to 130lb. All anglers spent a few days fishing for the large migrating Snook and were rewarded with 20 lbs+ Snook.  

As this Fishing Report was written the Costa Rica Tarpon continue to be active, even with a full moon. However, the size has dropped to 60lbs to 125lb average range, with the occasional 160 lbs+ Tarpon. Fat Costa Rica Snook have been active in the lagoons and rivers. The Snook we caught provided great dinners and shore lunches for the anglers visiting our Costa Rica fishing lodge. As we approach the rainy season I will personally try to find points that hold Tarpon during migration and perhaps locate areas that can be used exclusively for "sight" fishing.  The peak season for Tarpon Fishing Charters is only a few months away and it appears it could be another recording breaking Tarpon fishing season. March 22nd, 2014 Costa Rica Fishing Report & Nicaragua Fishing Report

Three anglers from the U.S. spent three days fishing the jungle only.  They experienced exceptional Costa Rica fishing for Guapote, Snook and Machaca.  Each angler landed an average of 15 to 20 fish per day in the 4 lbs to 6 lbs range and several Snook over 10 lbs.  They did not go into the ocean because they really enjoy the pristine jungle and wildlife they always see.  They had an amazing time Costa Rica Snook Fishing!
 
A single angler from the U.S. spent 8 days and had a spectacular trip.  He jumped a tarpon believed by the guides to be over 200 lbs and averaged over 3 boated Costa Rica tarpon per day and a career best of 6 one day, along with an assortment of other ocean fish.  Incidentally, this angler is 75 years young.  The angler chose to fish the jungle on several occasions and again experienced exceptional fishing, landing 22 and 16 large Guapote Bass up to 6 lbs on consecutive days.  One Guapote weighted 8 lbs and was a beautiful rainbow color.  He has already booked an 8 day Costa Rica Fishing Trip for September.  We have the best Costa Rica Tarpon Fishing Lodge!

James Veugeler (Manging Partner at the Lodge) went out with his fly rod and in a few hours jumped three Costa Rica Tarpon and landed one Tarpon.  His two boat mates landed a total of 6 Tarpon ranging from 75 lbs to 120 lbs along with Jacks and a Shark.  All fish were released to fight another day.  Our Costa Rica Tarpon Fishing Lodge offers the most exciting sportfishing trips in the Caribbean!
